What is RSS and what can RSS do for you?
Creating an RSS feed from your Phanfare albums lets friends and family add your album headlines to their RSS-enabled reader, such as Google Reader or MyYahoo! It also lets you display your images in screensavers that support RSS such as the Google Photos Screensaver (http://pack.google.com/screensaver.html) and PC Magazine's Photo Viewr (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1951944,00.asp). Some digital picture frames now also support RSS feeds.
RSS, which stands for Really Simple Syndication, is a standard for distributing news headlines. RSS was born in the blogging world, but it is perfect for your friends and family to keep track of your Phanfare albums without you having to send them an invitation.
Phanfare offers two types of RSS feeds:
- Update Feed: This feed shows the 5 most recently changed or created albums in your account. It is meant to be used with readers such as MyYahoo and Google Reader.
- Display Feeds: These feeds are meant to be used with photo screensavers and digital picture frames supporting RSS.
If you enable this feature, an RSS icon will appear in the upper right-hand of your Table of Contents. It will also show up under the Site Options section of the Options menu within an album.
Unlike most RSS systems feeds, which are not authenticated, ours is authenticated. If you have a password set for your site access then we create an RSS feed link that also contains a long random password so that guessing your RSS feed URL is not practical. If you change your site password, you will invalidate any users who currently subscribe to your RSS feed.
