How does Phanfare work?

From Phanfare Support

Once you download and install the Phanfare Photo software on your computer, you create albums and simply drag your full-size photos and videos into the main window of the application. Thumbnails of your photos and videos will immediately appear on the screen in front of you. At the same time, Phanfare will begin uploading your photos and videos to your personal web site.

If you use Microsoft Windows

When you drop a photo or video file into the application, it will say “Website ready in X minutes” at the bottom of the screen. During this process, Phanfare is uploading any videos you have imported and a web-sized version of the images you have imported. When it changes to “Website is up-to-date,” you can go to http://yourusername.phanfare.com to view your site or you can click the “Online Album” icon on your Phanfare Photo toolbar, and your online photo album will appear in a new web browser window. The full-size version of your images will continue to upload as described below as long as you keep the Phanfare application open on your computer. There is no publish button!

What does fullsize images pending mean?

After Phanfare Photo uploads the videos you imported and the web-sized versions of your photos, it uploads the full-size version of your images. Videos are uploaded first. While Phanfare is uploading the full-size version of your photos, you can work on organizing, captioning, and editing your photos. The “Fullsize images pending” indicator at the bottom right of the Phanfare Photo application lets you know how many of your fullsize images are left to upload. For example, the indicator shown below lets you know there are two full-size image still in the process of being uploaded to your site. This will count down to none and then disappear as long as the application is left open during the process.

Thumbnails will show the yellow icon pictured below when the full-size image has not yet been uploaded. You know the full-size version has been uploaded to your site when the yellow icon is not shown. Once the full-size image is uploaded to your site, it is available for visitors to download (as long as you don't turn off this feature to prevent visitors from downloading the fullsize original images).

When adding video to an album, you must wait until the application says your website is "up-to-date" (look at bottom navigation bar after dropping a video in) if you want to be able to view the video on your site. For photos, if you quit before the “Fullsize images” indicator reads “None pending” and disappears, you may not be able to order a large size print from some of your images or download the original photo from your website.

If you do quit the Photo application before are all the fullsize images of your photos or videos are uploaded, the application will resume uploading them the next time you login.

If you use a Mac

The upload process for the Mac is identical to the process for Windows computers, but the upload progress indicators are slightly different.

While your web site is being updated, a progress bar at the bottom right of the window indicates that web-sized images and videos are being uploaded. You will also see the word "Importing" superimposed over any image or video that has not yet been uploaded to the web site.

An icon on the image thumbnails indicates whether the full-size image has not yet been uploaded. Additionally, holding the mouse over an image thumbnail reveals its upload status.

Finally, a status indicator in the lower-left corner of the screen indicates how many full-size images and videos remain to be uploaded, and gives an approximate estimate of time remaining.
